R-rated metro rom-com starring Zac Efron as one of a group of three commitment-phobe friends, each caught in their own dating limbo. Co-stars Michael B. But what was intended as one-night stands quickly turn into something more, leading to the eternally awkward, titular question. This film is a very generic american comedy with predictable story lines and weak characters. The majority of the humor I personally found distasteful. However the general story was somewhat sweet and likable, was watchable although nothing amazing.

Nor is there tom novelty about men exercising sexual freedom. Efron plays Jason, a graphic designer who works at a funky publishing house. He’s smart, funny, creative – a gormican catch.

Can the romantic comedy be adapted for dudes? That is the question, to quote Shakespeare. His name is apt because this story of three New York buddies who vow to stay single is inspired partly by the plot of Love’s Labour’s Lost. The other inspiration is clearly the way Sex and the City pushed the boundaries of what women could talk about on American television. Writer-director Tom Gormican, making his debut, has an ear for witty dialogue, delivered fast.
Indeed, some of it whooshes past like a New York taxi at midnight. Some is even credible about the way men talk to each other, although it lacks the surprise and shock that made Sex and the City so fresh. Review by Louise Keller: Like ticking all the boxes required for relationships, filmmaker Tom Gormican seems to have ticked all the right boxes for a date movie in his debut film, delivering an amiable romcom endowed with romance, penis-humour and MA-rated sex. It’s predictable and somewhat derivative but the characters are likeable enough, albeit rather bland. I would have liked to have seen more spontaneous moments like the one in which Zak Efron’s Jason fronts his girlfriend’s surprise birthday party and meets her parents, wearing a strap on dildo.
No, not THAT kind of dress up party! The plot involves a mild-mannered notion in which three pals agree to have fun together and not get serious in the dating game. No prize offered for what happens. After a brief voice over introduction by Efron, explaining that it is 2.

When Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller feature in what looks to be a standard rom com, you’d rightly hope that these terrific young performers with impeccable recent choices on their resume could elevate the material. Don’t be fooled, That Awkward Moment retitled Are We Officially Dating for Australian audiences takes a tired 90s feeling premise, promptly forgets it and meanders for an excruciating ninety minutes only to deliver its best material in the outtakes.

In the new psychological thriller That Awkward Moment , Zac Efron gives an uncannily cool performance as a sociopath whose promiscuous ways are interrupted by the arrival of a particularly adorable new prey, played by Imogen Poots. But writer-director Tom Gormican and Efron clearly signal to us what kind of film it is by making sure the actor never emotes — that the icky shadow of human feeling and passion never passes across his immobile, dreamy face. Jordan — who were best friends in college and are now making their lives in New York.
I was confused that she thought we were even dating. And That Awkward Moment seems to understand that. Only a sociopath would behave this carelessly, and as such, That Awkward Moment makes for an interesting study in abnormal criminal behavior. The somewhat more sarcastic Daniel is kind of a Jason-in-training: He too goes around bedding random women he meets in bars, but instead of playing the emotionless jerk card like Jason does, he pretends to be the young, innocent virgin.
Unfortunately, for him, his wife wants a divorce, after bedding down with a strapping Morris Chestnut type. But because these characters have a pact — and not just a pact, but a Movie Pact, which means that it must not be broken except in the most ridiculously inane way possible — they keep their burgeoning long-lasting relationships from each other.
